SUMMARY: All the right options are here, but until they work better and filter effectiveness is substantially improved this is not a product we would recommend.. BOTTOM LINE: All the right options are here, but until they work better and filter effectiveness is substantially improved this is not a product we would recommend. BODY: Key findings: Filtering effectiveness was poorOn setup runs a “snooper” to check for existing issues.Blocked pages were not always clearly identified as blocked; this was confusing and left no override for legitimate sites.Logs were confusing Our Cyber Sitter experience started out promising by running a “snooper” that scanned our hard drive for the existence of inappropriate material that had been previously accessed. It wasn’t perfect and found a few things that were not really problems (known as false positives), but it is still the only product we tested to run such a scan. Setup was easy and all the proper features were in place. We were encouraged. Our encouragement faded quickly during the Internet Filtering portion of test. Cyber Sitter doesn’t always tell you a page has been blocked. When we went to a site that should have been blocked, it simply redirected us to a page of links for windows software products and some other “dummy pages” put up to fool the user (At least that’s what it seemed like they were doing). Furthermore, many sites that should have been blocked were not. We found it to be one of the least effective filters we tested. Legitimate sites that were blocked had no simple way to be unblocked or temporarily overridden. Attempts to block IM and P2P failed. Use and setup was not as intuitive as other programs in this field and usage logs were confusing. All the right options are here, but until they work better and filter effectiveness is substantially improved this is not a product we would recommend. ============================================ ADDITIONAL HTML: ============================================
