Good for most audiences. SUMMARY: Bsafe Online Internet Filter provided the best Web filtering of any of the products we tested.. BOTTOM LINE: Bsafe Online Internet Filter provided the best Web filtering of any of the products we tested. BODY: Key findings: Best web filtering productStrongest Default SettingsReporting is not live (next day)Needs stronger IM and P2P control. Bsafe Online’s Internet Filter provided the best web filtering of any of the products we tested.* Bsafe’s default setting are very strong and we liked that. It contains white-list and black-list options. The basic version also comes with a firewall that allows a user to block common IM and P2P applications. Choices are limited by a list of the most common applications. We would like to see this product allow for any application to be blocked or limited. Bsafe allows for settings to be changed from their Web site so the user could even change settings for their home computer while at the office. Bsafe’s reporting feature sent a link to their online “tamper proof report.” Reports being housed on their equipment was a good security feature, however reports are not live and are only generated every 24 hours. It could be the next morning before you discovered a problem. The software did have an auto-shutdown feature that would force a reboot after a block screen limit was reached. But then the child could get right back on if there is no login password to prevent that. We loved this program despite those issues. We recommend it for the majority of families who are serious about protecting their children and want the strongest filter available. There is one exception to our recommendation: A troubled teen who is determined to gain access to inappropriate sites. We recommend you install software like SafeEyes in those cases. It will text message or phone you when a violation occurs. Furthermore, we recommend you only allow access to the Internet when you can sit down with them and until trust has been reestablished. (Click here to learn about “the best filter”) We learned that a new 5.0 version is coming out while talking with Bsafe staff. It will allow users to control which friends are allowed to be added to a child’s IM list. We look forward to seeing that work. *D-Link and Bsafe both are powered by Bsecure Technologies and provide the same results regarding web filtering. ============================================ ADDITIONAL HTML: ============================================
