SUMMARY: ContentWatch acquires NetNanny and releases their home product under the NetNanny name with some improvements.. BOTTOM LINE: ContentWatch acquires NetNanny and releases their home product under the NetNanny name with some improvements. BODY: Key Findings for NetNanny: ContentWatch acquires NetNanny nameVersion 5.5 replaces both NetNanny 5.1 and ContentProtect 2.5It's basically ContentProtect with the NetNanny logo (that's a good thing).Improved filtering effectiveness since our last ContentProtect Review. MoralMetric Labs: NetNanny (5.1) received our lowest score of all filtering products when last reviewed. But few products carried the name recognition of NetNanny as it was one of the early leaders in Internet Filtering. NetNanny's name recognition remains high among consumers, which made the past performance of the product even more unsettling. But that was then. NetNanny was acquired by ContentWatch in January 2007. ContentWatch has a good product and was rated as one of the best for ease of use in our last review (see ContentWatch v 2.5 Review). ContentWatch takes the NetNanny name and puts it over what was previously ContentProtect Home (version 2.5). That alone brings NetNanny from the last place to the playoffs in a single season. Features And Improvements NetNanny now excels in the "ease of use" category. We found it to be extremely intuitive and easy to navigate. It blocked all major peer-to-peer programs, had live reporting, and allowed remote access to reports (see what sites your kids are visiting while you are away). NetNanny now also has free tech support and a toll-free number. It can be set up to send you an e-mail or a text message to your phone when a violation occurs. We've even seen improvements when you compare the old ContentWatch to this version of NetNanny. The most notable was improved filtering results. However, we still found NetNannny 5.5 to lack the effectiveness of some of its competitors, even with all its improvements. NetNanny allows a few more sites through that should have been blocked. The monitoring of Instant Messaging was effective, but it did not screen offensive or private information - such as a child's address, phone number - from the Instant Message windows. We like the improvements we saw, and look forward to seeing more improvements from ContentProtect uh... NetNanny in the future. ============================================ ADDITIONAL HTML: ============================================
