"Firehouse Dog" tells the story of a pampered dog from Hollywood who becomes the mascot of a run-down firehouse.

BOTTOM LINE:
"Firehouse Dog" tells the story of a pampered dog from Hollywood who becomes the mascot of a run-down firehouse.  The fire captain and his son are experiencing a difficult time with the death of a family member, and the dog provides encouragement to them and the fire station, as well as helping to track down a serial arsonist.  The film contains some scenes of danger, mild crude language, and potty jokes.

What reviewers are saying: about Firehouse Dog:
Alex Chun of the Los Angeles Times writes, "Though it never completely catches fire, there's enough earnestness and warmth that makes it a welcome alternative in a family film arena dominated by computer animation and associated toy lines."

Yahoo!'s Movie Mom Nell Minow cautions, "It is as uncertain about its audience as it is about its story, with material that pushes the edge of a PG rating, including some crude language, a sad (offscreen) death, and intense firefighting scenes of peril and violence."

Variety's Justin Chang comments, "Leaving no heartstrings untugged and no doggie-fart jokes uncracked, scruffy pic reps a very mixed breed of obvious humor, gently moving father-son drama and sub-"Backdraft" trial by fire."

"Occasional (mild) gross-outs and Shane's disobedience (which is dealt with) are probably the biggest content concerns here," tells Adam R. Holz of Plugged In Online.

Sandie Angulo Chen of Common Sense Media explains, "Known for ditching school and disobeying his father, Shane has behavioral and communication issues. He and his father also both deal with grieving the recent loss of a relative."
